Haven't entered yet — is it too late?
No — as of April 2026, entries for Sunshine Coast Marathon 2026 are still open. The event uses first-come, first-served registration with no ballot or lottery. The full marathon still has availability, and the Half Marathon is available now but tends to sell out before the event.
The full marathon is $220 Early Bird until 28 April 2026. After that, Standard pricing applies ($240 from 29 April – 16 June, then $260 Late). If you're planning to enter, do it before 28 April to save $20–$40. Register at the official Atlas Events portal: endurancecui.active.com
| Pricing tier | Full marathon | Valid until | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super Early Bird | $200 | 17 March 2026 | Closed |
| Early Bird | $220 | 28 April 2026 | ✅ Open now |
| Standard | $240 | 16 June 2026 | Opens 29 April |
| Late | $260 | 29 July 2026 (5pm AEST) | Opens 17 June |
The shorter distances (Half Marathon, 10km, 5km, 2km) are priced lower and historically sell out earlier than the full marathon. If your intended distance sells out before you register, the official transfer system is your best route to a spot — see the transfer section below.
Once online entries close, the only remaining option is late in-person registration at the Event Precinct (Thursday–Saturday of race week) — and only if spots remain in your distance. If a distance is sold out, no late entries are available for it.
Already entered but can't race — your options
If you've already entered Sunshine Coast Marathon 2026 and can no longer race, you have three realistic paths: cancel for a partial refund, transfer your entry to another runner, or change to a different distance. This is genuinely better than most Australian races, which offer no refund at all.
| Option | Available? | Deadline | What you get back |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cancel for 50% refund | ✅ Yes | 5pm 25 May 2026 | 50% of original fee |
| Cancel for 25% refund | ✅ Yes | 5pm 22 June 2026 | 25% of original fee |
| Transfer to another runner | ✅ Yes — window open now | 22 Jul (online) / 1 Aug (in-person) | Full original fee minus $20 |
| Change distance (own entry) | ✅ Yes | 22 Jul (online) / race week (in-person) | Upgrade: pay difference. Downgrade: no refund |
| Full refund | ❌ No | — | — |
| Defer to 2027 | ❌ No | — | — |
If you can find a buyer, transferring recovers more money than a partial refund — you get your full original fee back minus the $20 transfer fee, while a cancellation gives you at most 50% and after 22 June, nothing. Transfer first, refund as a backup if you can't find a buyer before the refund deadline.
Partial refund — cancel your own entry
If you know you can't race and don't want to find a buyer, you can cancel your entry directly for a partial refund. Contact Atlas Events at [email protected] to request a cancellation.
| Cancel by | Refund amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 5pm AEST, 25 May 2026 | 50% of original registration fee | Best refund available — act now if you're sure you can't race |
| 5pm AEST, 22 June 2026 | 25% of original registration fee | Last chance for any refund |
| After 22 June 2026 | No refund | Transfer your entry to another runner instead |
If you know right now that you can't race and you'd prefer a clean cancellation over finding a buyer, email [email protected] before 5pm AEST on 25 May. After that date, you'll only recover 25%, and after 22 June, nothing at all.
Official transfer process — step by step
Transferring your entry to another runner recovers more money than cancelling. Sunshine Coast Marathon uses the Active/MyEvents platform for all official transfers. The process is straightforward — here's exactly how it works:
Go to myevents.active.com/AtlasEventsPtyLtd using the email address you registered with. This is the same portal you used to sign up.
Find the Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival 2026 event in your dashboard and click "Transfer registration". Transfers must be to the same distance — you can't transfer a marathon entry to someone who wants the half.
Enter the recipient's email address and confirm it carefully. Double-check this — the invitation goes to exactly the address you type, and an error creates complications that require direct contact with Atlas Events to resolve.
The new runner receives an email invitation to complete their registration. They pay the current entry fee at the time of transfer (not your original price) plus the $20 transfer fee. They complete their own details — name, emergency contact, medical information.
Your original entry is cancelled. You receive a refund of your original registration fee minus the $20 transfer fee. Both parties receive official email confirmation. The new runner is issued a new numbered bib — your original bib is deregistered.
Person-to-person transfers must be within the same distance. A marathon entry can only transfer to another marathon runner. If the buyer wants a different distance, they need to find a separate entry or register directly if spots remain.
Transfer deadlines and in-person desk times
One of the best things about Sunshine Coast Marathon's transfer policy is that you can transfer right up until race eve. The online window closes 22 July, but in-person transfers continue through race week at Buhk Family Park.
| Phase | Deadline / Times | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online transfers | Until 5pm AEST, Wednesday 22 July 2026 | myevents.active.com/AtlasEventsPtyLtd | Recommended — easiest method |
| In-person — Thursday | 30 July 2026 · 2:00pm – 6:00pm | Buhk Family Park, Alexandra Headland | Either party can attend |
| In-person — Friday | 31 July 2026 · 9:00am – 5:00pm | Buhk Family Park, Alexandra Headland | Either party can attend |
| In-person — Saturday | 1 August 2026 · 8:00am – 4:00pm | Buhk Family Park, Alexandra Headland | Last chance — race is Sunday 2 August |
The event organisers specifically state that screenshots of the confirmation email are not accepted at the in-person Transfers desk. The recipient must have the original confirmation email accessible — forwarded directly to them, on the original entrant's phone, or printed. A screenshot will be turned away.
Fees — what you get back, what the new runner pays
What you (the original entrant) receive
You receive a refund of your original registration fee, minus the $20 transfer fee. This is substantially better than the partial refund available through direct cancellation — especially after 22 June when the cancellation refund drops to zero.
What the new runner pays
The new runner pays the current entry fee at the time of transfer — not your original price. If you registered at Super Early Bird ($200) and transfer now at Late pricing ($260), the new runner pays $260 plus the $20 transfer fee. Factor this into any private arrangement with your buyer.
Any private deal you make with a buyer (for example, asking them to contribute toward your registration cost) is entirely between the two of you. The official portal handles the registration — it does not manage private payment between individuals. Keep this simple: settle any arrangement privately before initiating the transfer.

How to find a buyer
Finding a buyer is the key challenge once you've decided to transfer. The Sunshine Coast Marathon community is active — the Facebook group for the event and Queensland running groups regularly see genuine transfer posts — but the experience is inconsistent and carries scam risk.
BibBuddy is a free platform built specifically for bib transfers. You post your entry with your verified runner profile, buyers can see it's a legitimate listing from a real person, and both parties proceed through the official portal once matched. For Sunshine Coast Marathon specifically, demand spikes in June–July as the event fills up and runners who missed out start searching for a way in.
Listing early — well before the 22 July online deadline — gives you the best chance of finding a buyer with time to complete the online transfer. In-person race-week transfers work, but they require both parties to be in Alexandra Headland.
Staying safe — the official scam warning
Atlas Events have specifically issued guidance about unofficial bib sales on social media. Their advice is worth reading carefully whether you're a buyer or a seller: if you choose to accept an entry from someone after the online transfer window closes, you should not exchange money unless you have received the physical bib or the seller accompanies you to the Event Precinct for the in-person transfer.
The most common scam pattern is a seller accepting payment from multiple buyers for the same entry, attending no transfers, and disappearing before race day. The buyer arrives with no registered entry and no recourse.
Red flags to watch for as a buyer
- Request for payment before the official transfer is initiated — wait until the invitation email arrives before paying anything significant
- Seller won't show their original confirmation email — any legitimate seller has this immediately accessible
- Pressure to pay via bank transfer, PayID, or cash — these are irreversible with no buyer protection
- Anonymous profile or reluctance to share full name — the full name must match what appears in Active/MyEvents
- Price significantly above original registration cost — Sunshine Coast Marathon entries are not scarce; high asking prices are a warning sign
Safe transaction checklist
- ✅ Ask the seller to show their original confirmation email (name, distance and event visible)
- ✅ Agree on any private arrangement before anything is initiated
- ✅ Wait for your invitation email from Active/MyEvents before paying the seller
- ✅ If you must pay before the invitation arrives, use PayPal Goods & Services — not Friends & Family, not PayID
- ✅ For in-person race-week transfers, go to the Transfers desk together — safest option of all
- ✅ Both parties receive official email confirmation before the transaction is considered complete
Agree privately → seller initiates transfer at myevents.active.com/AtlasEventsPtyLtd → you receive invitation email → you pay the seller → you complete registration. This order protects both parties. For in-person transfers, going together to the Transfers desk and exchanging payment on the spot is even safer.
Bib collection for transferred entries
Collection timing depends on when the transfer was completed:
- Transfer completed before 22 June 2026 — the new runner can opt for postal delivery to an Australian address. Select this at the time of registration.
- Transfer completed after 22 June 2026 — bib must be collected in person at the Event Precinct during the registration/transfer times above.
- Transfer at the in-person desk (race week) — a new numbered bib is issued at the Transfers desk on the spot.
- Proxy collection — someone else can collect on behalf of the registered runner using the confirmation email or QR code.
Sunshine Coast Marathon does not offer bib pickup on race day. The last opportunity is Saturday 1 August, 8am–4pm — the day before the race. Make sure any buyer understands this and can be at Buhk Family Park before the cutoff.
Frequently asked questions
Can I defer my Sunshine Coast Marathon entry to 2027?
No official deferral programme exists for 2026. If you can't race, your options are: cancel for a partial refund (by 22 June), transfer to another runner (until 1 August), or forfeit your entry. It's worth contacting Atlas Events directly at [email protected] in genuine hardship cases — policies can evolve year to year.
Does the new runner get my bib number?
No — the new runner is issued a brand-new numbered bib. Your original bib is deregistered. This applies whether the transfer was completed online or in person.
What if the new runner backs out after I've initiated the transfer?
Until the new runner accepts the invitation and completes payment, the transfer isn't finalised. If the invitation expires without being accepted, your entry remains active. Contact Atlas Events at [email protected] if you're unsure of the status.
I'm the buyer — when should I pay the seller?
After you've received the invitation email from Active/MyEvents confirming the transfer has been initiated in your name. This proves the entry is real and in the process of being transferred to you specifically. For in-person race-week transfers, pay once the new bib is in your hand and confirmed by the desk.
I want to do the Half Marathon but it's sold out. Can I transfer to someone's marathon entry and run the half?
No — transfers are same-distance only. A marathon entry can only transfer to another marathon runner. You would need to find someone specifically selling a Half Marathon entry.
Are there alternative races on the Sunshine Coast if I miss this one?
The Sunshine Coast region has a strong running calendar — the Noosa Running Festival and various park run events run year-round. For marathon-distance racing, the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon (4–5 July) is the nearest comparable event, and the Brisbane Marathon Festival typically runs in June. Check the Australian race transfer guide for a full picture of what's available.
