The policy — strict but clear
Manchester Marathon runs on a tight policy: no person-to-person transfers, no deferrals, and no refunds after 14 days. This is the current official position as stated on the Manchester Marathon support pages. The organisers (ASO UK, who also run the Manchester Half Marathon) are explicit about this:
| Option | Available? | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Full refund | ✅ Within 14 days of purchase only | Less booking fee. Email request required. |
| Booking Protection claim | ✅ If purchased at registration | Claim via participant dashboard. Specific covered reasons apply. |
| Withdraw (forfeit entry) | ✅ Any time | No refund. Get priority 2028 entry at lowest price after the event. |
| Transfer to another person | ❌ No | Not permitted under any circumstances. |
| Deferral to 2028 | ❌ No | Not offered. Withdrawal + priority access is the closest equivalent. |
| London Marathon refund | ⚠️ Launch window only | Only if you entered during the specific launch window that advertised this. Check your registration terms. |
If you registered for Manchester Marathon 2027 recently and are already having doubts, check your purchase date immediately. The 14-day full refund window (less booking fee) is the only route to recovering your money, and it closes regardless of your reason for cancelling. Email the organisers as soon as possible if you're within the window.
14-day refund window
The one clean exit from a Manchester Marathon entry is the 14-day refund window from your original purchase date. If you notify the organisers by email within 14 days, a full refund less the booking fee will be processed. After that date, no refund is possible — regardless of the reason, and regardless of how far in advance of the race you are.
To request a refund, email the Manchester Marathon team. The contact is found in your original confirmation email. Include your name, registration ID, and the email address used to register. Do this quickly — the 14-day window does not pause for weekends.
Manchester Marathon charges a booking fee at checkout, which is non-refundable under any circumstances — including within the 14-day window, under Booking Protection, or in the event of race cancellation. This is stated in the terms and conditions. Factor this into your calculation of what you'll actually recover.
Booking Protection — worth buying?
Manchester Marathon offers Booking Protection as an add-on at the time of registration. This is insurance that covers specific circumstances where you can't attend — typically injury, illness, bereavement, or other documented events — beyond the 14-day refund window.
If you purchased Booking Protection and need to make a claim, access it via your participant dashboard using the link in your confirmation email, or through your Time To account if you have one.
Booking Protection must be added at the time of purchase. You cannot go back and add it after the fact. Given the strict no-refund policy beyond 14 days, Booking Protection is worth considering at checkout — especially for a race you're entering many months in advance. If you didn't buy it and you're outside the 14-day window, your options are limited to withdrawing.
Withdrawing — the practical process
If you're outside the 14-day refund window and didn't purchase Booking Protection, the only official path is to withdraw. This means you forfeit your entry fee, but you receive something in return:
Runners who formally withdraw will be emailed shortly after the 2027 race with the opportunity to enter the 2028 Manchester Marathon at the lowest available entry price. This isn't a guaranteed place — it's priority access to purchase at the best price when entries open. Given that 2026 launch entries sold out within minutes, this is genuinely valuable.
If you're within 14 days of purchase, email for a refund before withdrawing. Withdrawing forfeits any refund right.
Look at your original confirmation email or Time To account. If you have it, make a claim via your participant dashboard rather than withdrawing.
Access your dashboard via the link in your confirmation email. Select the withdrawal option. You'll receive confirmation that your place has been released.
After the 2027 race, the organisers will email all withdrawn runners with the opportunity to enter 2028 at the lowest price. Watch for this email — it's the best value route back into the event.
London Marathon refund policy — special case
Manchester and London Marathon take place around the same time of year (Manchester typically one week before London), which means many UK runners enter both. For the 2026 entry window specifically, Manchester offered a refund policy for runners who subsequently secured a London ballot place — acknowledging the conflict.
Whether this policy applies to 2027 entries will depend on the terms stated at the time of registration for 2027. If you're entering 2027 Manchester with the intention of also trying for London, read the 2027 registration terms carefully at the time of purchase to confirm whether a London refund clause applies. Do not assume the 2026 terms carry over.
The London refund policy was specifically offered during the 2026 launch entry window as an incentive to register early. There is no confirmation this will apply to 2027 entries. Verify the terms before registering if this matters to your decision. The 2027 ballot results (announced in June 2026) will come after Manchester entries have already opened and possibly sold out — plan accordingly.
Charity places
Manchester Marathon has many official charity partners, including Alzheimer's Society, Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, and The Christie Charity. Charity places guarantee entry even when the general event is sold out, in exchange for a fundraising commitment.
The typical fundraising minimum for Manchester charity places is £500, significantly lower than London's £2,000–£2,600 commitment. Registration fees vary by charity but are typically £20–£50. For runners who are confident they want to run Manchester and can commit to fundraising, a charity place is a reliable route that bypasses the Priority Access scramble.
If you hold a charity place and can't race, the decision on deferral or reassignment belongs to your charity — not the race organisers. Contact your charity directly as early as possible. Most will try to find a replacement runner rather than lose the fundraising opportunity.

Entering Manchester Marathon 2027 — Priority Access is live now
The 2026 adidas Manchester Marathon is sold out with over 42,000 runners. Entries for 2027 are expected to be released in April 2026 — which means they could drop any day now. There is no ballot. Entries are first-come, first-served, and based on the 2026 pattern, the best-price launch allocation will sell out within minutes.
The official Priority Access list is live at manchestermarathon.co.uk/event-updates/. Signing up gives you notification before the general public when entries go live — this is your best chance at securing a place, especially at the lowest launch price.
The organisers have confirmed entries will be released in April 2026. With 2026 launch entries selling out in minutes, being on the Priority Access list at manchestermarathon.co.uk/event-updates/ is the single most important thing you can do to secure a 2027 place.
What the entry tiers look like
Manchester uses tiered pricing — the earlier you register, the lower the price. For 2026, Individual Entry started from £85 at launch. A Full Experience Bundle (photos + engraved medal) started from around £117. A full package with premium extras reached £211. The booking fee is additional and non-refundable. Exact 2027 pricing will be confirmed when entries open.

Frequently asked questions
I entered more than 14 days ago. Is there absolutely no way to get a refund?
Unless you purchased Booking Protection and have a covered reason, no. The policy is firm: no refunds after 14 days, no exceptions. The organisers have been clear about this even when runners have pushed back. Your best path is to withdraw (forfeiting the entry fee) and receive priority access to 2028 entries at the lowest price after the race.
What counts as a covered reason under Booking Protection?
Booking Protection terms are set by the insurance provider, not by Manchester Marathon directly. Typically covered reasons include documented injury or illness, bereavement of a close family member, redundancy, and certain other life events. Check the specific terms in your participant dashboard for the exact covered circumstances that applied when you purchased.
I've seen people "selling" Manchester Marathon places online. Is that allowed?
No. Manchester Marathon's terms explicitly prohibit swapping, selling, or allowing another person to wear your race number. Running under someone else's name is a breach of contract and can result in being banned from future events. The terms state: participation is personal to you, and you are strictly prohibited from swapping or selling your place.
I withdrew last year. Will I definitely get an email about 2028 entries?
The organisers state that withdrawn runners will be emailed shortly after the event with the opportunity to enter the following year at the lowest price. Make sure your email address on file is current and check your spam folder after race day. If you haven't received anything within a few weeks post-race, contact the organisers directly.
I entered Manchester thinking I'd miss out on London. Now I might get London. What do I do?
Check the terms you agreed to at the time of your 2027 Manchester registration specifically. For the 2026 launch window, Manchester offered a London refund clause — but this is not guaranteed to apply to 2027 entries. If your registration terms include a London refund clause, you'll need proof of your London ballot place to claim it. If they don't, you'll need to decide between running both (one week apart), withdrawing Manchester, or selling your London place — the last of which London doesn't permit. Plan ahead.
